Planning guidance on self-build and custom housebuilding published

Smaller builders seeking commissions for custom housebuilding projects will be interested in the publication of draft planning practice guidance on self-build and custom housebuilding, which will come into force on 1 April 2016.

Local planning authorities (LPAs) should follow the guidance when compiling self-build and custom housebuilding registers of those individuals, and associations of individuals, seeking serviced plots of land for building their own home. LPAs must also consider the registers when carrying out their planning, housing, disposal and regeneration functions. The registers should make it easier for people to find suitable serviced plots.
