Job Specification

The candidate will be a key support to one partner, one solicitor and one paralegal and ideally have prior experience of private client work. We are looking for a very bright, capable candidate who is able to learn fast on the job. Training will be by way of ‘doing’, and support will be provided in a helpful, friendly and fast-paced environment. There is opportunity for progression in this role, which would be the natural result of dedication, an impressive work ethic and a consistent demonstration of the ability to be an inter-supportive member of the team.

You will be supporting a fast-growing practice by opening and maintaining files, organising databases, managing invoices and payments into and out of office and client accounts, drafting correspondence, as well as assisting with other tasks as required. After comprehensive training, you will also be handling new enquiries, preparing Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs), helping to draft Wills and other legal documentation, and liaising with clients on matters you are involved in.

To be successful in this role, you will be highly motivated and eager to learn, intelligent and commercial and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. You will also be an effective multi-tasker who thrives in a busy, team-oriented environment. We are a diverse, friendly, inter-supportive and successful firm and we work across our three North London offices in Hampstead, Crouch End and Highgate. You will be based in the Hampstead office.

Responsibilities

  • Organising and maintaining documents in electronic (and occasional paper) filing systems.
  • Researching private client law and practice and assisting with updates.
  • Keeping the document storage system up to date.
  • Meeting with clients to facilitate signing documents.
  • Writing to attorneys on LPAs and orchestrating the process of registration with the Office of the Public Guardian, following training.
  • Preparing first drafts of Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney and other legal documents, when fully briefed as to structure and content.

Working Hours

  • Weekdays from 9.30am to 5.30pm with an hour lunch break.

Paralegal Requirements

  • Excellent telephone manner.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, organisational, and administrative skills.
  • Able to liaise confidently with clients and third parties.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Must be experienced at multi-tasking, managing time sensitive documents and taking responsibility for delegated tasks.
  • Must thrive in a busy, team-oriented environment.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Must have A* – C grade GCSEs and A Levels.
  • Must have obtained a 2:1 or 1st class undergraduate degree.
  • Prior experience or familiarity with a legal case management system is advantageous but not essential.
